Yeah, we have 3 Landmarks, 10 screens between them, and one other theatre occasionally picks up another one. If I could, I'd stay up at one a full day, and catch four movies, but I don't think anyone I know is that extreme...we have a pretty good lineup after tomorrow: with Le Divorce (seen), Step Into Liquid, Whale Rider (seen), Winged Migration, And Now Ladies and Gentleman, Dirty Pretty Things, Swimming Pool, Camp, the Magdalene Sisters, American Spelendor, and the Cremaster Cycle. The Magdalene Sisters goes into my stadium theatre that's about 25 minutes away tomorrow, and I'm happy they can actually dedicate ONE of their 18 theatres to it (I still really can't believe it).

I am looking forward to the 2nd annual San Diego film festival (I missed last years), though. Doesn't look like a great lineup, but two of the bigger ones I am David and Pieces of April should be good...we'll see. There's a new theatre going in 10 minutes away from me, and it'll be done in a year or so...let's just hope it's an art-house one. Very Happy

The nearest art house for me is about forty minutes away. Normally I try to take in double (or triple) features, to save on drive time... Too bad I'm not closer to Chicago.

I drove about an hour to catch Spellbound in Brookfield. I really wanted to do a double feature of that along with Swimming Pool, but time wasn't on my side. Now I see Dirty Pretty Things and Le Divorce are there as well (and Swimming Pool stayed), but with classes starting Tuesday, I don't expect to have time for the drive. :(

On breaks at home, it's much easier for me to get to Chicago. I'll definitely be staying in the Chicago area after graduation; it'll help with movies and acting.

My father lives in Brookfield, so I've been attending West Point and Westown for my entire life. They are not the best choice for me now (it was easier to see both Swimming Pool and Spellbound at the Oriental), but I'll occasionally show up. Most recently I saw Whale Rider at West Point.

Marcus' North Shore in Mequon is only about 30 minutes away, so I'm always happy when they program something unconventional. Today I saw Dirty Pretty Things there, rather than having to travel 45 minutes to the Oriental.

Next time you're in the area, we should cross paths!

Just saw The Magdalene Sisters, that just started playing in a theatre that's reletively close to me, luckily. It's my new favorite of the year, other than that, I am speechless for now.

We could get an outing of all the Wisconsin-based Flipside Discussion Board contributors together.

How about this one: Today I attended an afternoon screening of GIGLI, and there were five people in the theater by the time it started. I was first to arrive, and sat in my usual spot, in the middle with the screen filling my peripheral vision. Two women then came in, and sat in the back row. Then a couple entered, and sat directly behind me (even though the auditorium was wide open). Then the woman muttered, to me, "Creep! Move!," as if I had elected to block her view by choosing the seat in front of her. Needless to say, I didn't budge.

But why on earth did you pay money to see that piece of trash? Now, let's be honest... you liked it, didn't ya? Mr. Green

Critical duty, of course. And interest in social and cultural phenomenons.

I think those of us that are students of cinema locate pleasure in watching any film, because the movie's quality is irrelevant to its function for us, which is to serve simply as a stimulus for aesthetic analysis. For me, the pleasure of filmgoing is thinking about what's in front of me; the act of criticism, the act of self-reflection, and--most importantly--the act of exploring my personal relationship with art, are what interest me most while at the movies. And if the film happens to be good? Merely bonus.

Yep, even though no one will ever understand, that's exactly it. I would, really, not trade watching all of the movies that I rated "Zero" for the world.

Hey guys, on the Dirty Pretty Things note, it's coming to one of my local theatres on Friday. Do you know if someone were to buy me a ticket they'd let me in???

I suppose it depends on the theater.

Yeah well, when I went to Whale Rider there, the old lady who works there and always sees me asked if I would like to see Terminator 3 instead. I assume I'll have no problems. Very Happy
