Legends of the Fall with Brad Pitt..honestly..after two hours the last half an hour was unbearable. Ive seen movies i thought were bad, but i thought this movie was simply tactless. I did however like the character named Isabelle two, who, like everyone else on the movie excluding the indian (sorry dont remember his name) is killed. I also feel the sexual scenes between Brad Pitt and and the other characters really *weren't* needed. I feel the moviegoers would understand implications of these things without having to see these things. I'll admit, i'm not a person who likes Brad Pitt because he's "hot", and i haven't seen other movies with him, so i can't assert my opinion about his acting. Although another person who was with me absolutely loved it, although she only wanted to see it because of Brad Pitt. The other person with us agreed that it was overall pretty bad, although he *does* like certain movies with Brad Pitt.

Shill!

Oh, wait, shills are supposed to endorse a movie, right? I'm afraid I'll never get the hang of this.

Anyway, speaking of Legends of the Fall, starring Brad Pit and Anthony Hopkins, be sure to pick up the newly-restored two-disc Director's Cut, for only $24.95! It will be available Dec. 5 -- Just in time for Christmas. Even if you don't like it, someone you know does, and it's a perfect stocking stuffer! Reserve you copy today!

Alexander by Oliver Stone! This movie was just about how Alexander was gay. This movie was basically gay propoganda!! Oliver Stone is basically saying that since one of the GREATEST people were gay than its okay to be gay! NO THATS NOT TRUE!!! ALEXANDER WAS NOT GAY!! He just had a long life friend that he trusted the most. That doesnt mean that he was gay with him. Back then you could love a man and it was different than now. Loving another male meant that you highly respected them and honored them. Not that you made love with them. I went and saw this movie with a girl and I was embarrassed at what I was watching. THERE WAS COLLIN FARELL MAKING OUT WITH A DUDE! Embarassed And there was more male on male affection in that movie than anything else. Then there were the fighting scenes were you couldnt tell what was going on. AND IT WAS TOO LONG!!! 3 HOURS of man on man NOWAY!!! This movie gets my vote for worst film ever made!

Whoa, gayness? Making out with dudes? Ew, hurl. That's, like, so, like, gross. It's, like, so not okay, like, Shocked . I'm, like, so grossed out right now. Dude. I'm gonna, like, go drink some Miller and watch some football with my totally-platonic equally close-minded friends.

Next you'll be telling me he wasn't a homicidal megalomaniac who genuinely believed he was the son of Zeus.

No.... It's just that you would expect something more in an epic than downplaying the greatness of Alexander! He accomplished so much in his life and all the movie showed was how his life was all about his love life and how drunk he liked to get. (I know he was an alcoholic but at least show his great achievements.) I'm not against homosexuals but if they start showing their propganda to my kids I'm against that! You can be gay but don't try to influence my kids.

Also, a question to those who replied did you like it? Or what are your thoughts on it?

Would you consider Alexander "gay propaganda" designed to sway your children to join the homosexual ranks? Seems strange, since neither Oliver Stone nor Colin Farrell are gay. Isn't it possible that they had a larger artistic purpose in mind than merely spreading propaganda?

Side question: Would you consider those films that depict heterosexual kissing to be hetero propaganda?

Welcome to the board, by the way. One of the coolest things about this board is its weird mix of brutal honesty and cordial respect for difference of opinion.

I'm not entirely sure how you can claim that being homosexual 'downplays' someone's great achievements, but there you go.

Besides, the idea that Alexander was homosexual is a widely-discussed issue of history, with some evidence to support it. You'll find many academic texts that cover the issue. In which case, the question becomes whether you want your kids to know about Alexander the Great. If you're not comfortable with that, fine, but it really has little to do with the film.

What if your kid was gay? Wouldn't like him or her to see a movie that shows that sexual preference is no impediment to great accomplishments? Maybe I'm missing what exactly you consider propaganda in the film. I should mention I haven't seen the movie, but your post is the first reaction I've heard that Alexander can somehow work as gay propoganda.

I can buy into a parent's concern, but here's a question:

Why are you so unhappy if the MPAA rated the movie R and your kid cannot attend without your permission?

From IMDb:

Only days after accepting part of the blame for the box office failure of Alexander in the U.S., director Oliver Stone has attributed the disastrous performance to "raging fundamentalism in morality" in America. Speaking at the London premiere of the movie Wednesday night, Stone said, "From day one audiences didn't show up. They didn't even read the reviews in the South because the media was using the words: 'Alex is Gay.' As a result you can bet that they thought, 'We're not going to see a film about a military leader that has got something wrong with him."

surely this is the reason, and not that some of us in the South have actual brains and used those brains to not shell out our hard-earned nutria-huntin' money to see your bombastic piece of crap.

ONE SOUTHERNER'S RESPONSE TO SEEING THE TRAILER FOR ALEXANDER:

Wow. I totally wanna see this, if only to see how Dracula fits into the story of Alexander The Great.

I'm sorry, what's that?

... but that's who Angelina Jolie...

... but the accent...?

Huh. Oh well, nevermind then.

Yeah, I thought Stone's comment was total BS, too--and also quite ironic, in the way he employed raging, stereotypical generalizations to criticize a specific group of people.

I'm reminded also of how so many so-called educated people just think of the Midwest as merely "flyover" country.
