You've all probably heard about this, but anyway...

Quote:
According to The Hollywood Reporter, King Kong might have Naomi Watts in the palm of his hand. The Australian actress has emerged as the top contender to star in Universal Pictures' "King Kong" for filmmaker Peter Jackson. Watts would play Ann Darrow, an American actress who makes a living performing in Broadway song and dance shows in Depression-era New York. The role was immortalized by Fay Wray in the original 1933 classic and by Jessica Lange in the 1976 remake. No deal is in place, but an offer has been made, sources said. Jackson and Watts were in London late last month in what was described as "a meeting among friends." Sources also said that Jackson, who is still working "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," is expected to start writing the "King Kong" script in November and plans to shoot next summer.

As both a fan of her and Jackson, I think she'd be the perfect choice. Thoughts?

I found "The Ring" to be visually impressive, but as an effective story - or even a scary story - I was a tad disappointed.

I liked the US The Ring quite a bit, but I prefer the original Japanese version. I picked it up on a whim one day on VHS in 1999, because I had decided I simply could not take one more hip neo-slasher movie, which was all that was being offered at the time. I popped it in the player, sat back and expect a goofy gore-fest, based on what I had heard about Japanese horror up till that point. What I got instead was the first movie to send chills down my spine in nearly ten years -- and, mind you , this was a Japanese language tape with no subtitles. (I'm still amazed at how well I followed the story.)
