This just in:

Rob Vaux's review of The Return of the King.

And isn't his fanboy gushing cute? Laughing

I'll be seeing it about nine hours from now, I guess. I still haven't seen the extended edition of The Two Towers, which I had planned on doing before seeing Return of the King. I'll pick up the DVD eventually. Should I put off seeing ROTK until I've seen the extended Two Towers? Nah.

So... any thoughts on Return of the King and/or the entire Lord of the Rings saga?

I'm going to end up seeing it Friday, but I'm looking forward to it. So far all the reviews have been more than positive, and even Ebert, who hasn't been overly thrilled with the trilogy thusfar deigned to award ROTK 3 1/2 out of 4 stars. Can't be bad.

To be honest, there are several things playing in Milwaukee that I want to see first, including Elephant, so I may not see ROTK until Sunday (time permitting). I fear I may find all the clatter rather wearying. I'm looking forward to it, of course, but I'm also looking forward to it being over. Should I be more excited?

Good review, Danny. As an enthusiast, if not exactly a die-hard fan, of Jackson's LOTR, I'm really looking forward to this. Now maybe after King Kong he can finally get around to making the movie we've really been waiting for, Bad Taste 2.

Forget that. I'm waiting for Meet the Feebles: Reloaded.

That's funny, and we can laugh, but seriously--who among us wouldn't immediately pay to see that??

Yes, but the trilogy would be tainted by the third installment: Meet the Feebles: Feebolutions.

Look! Rob's review is the 'Hot Pick' at Rotten Tomatoes:

I just accidentally discovered that minutes ago. How cool is that?

The Return of the King was muy neat-o. As good as Fellowship. More later.

Okay - just saw "Return of the King" last night. It was great, certainly - but probably my least favorite of the three. Did I hype it up too much? Perhaps, but the film is quite overlong and seems to give in more often to action-movie quips and the battle scenes, while technically stunning, seemed to lose their flair after a while. Don't get me wrong, it's a great movie, and a worthy conclusion to a monumental trilogy (when Gandalf says, "We've come to it at last - the great battle of our time," you know he's telling the truth). "Fellowship" was the most emotional to me, and "Two Towers" the most technically astonishing; "Return of the King" has both, but not quite as much as I was hoping.
