What does everyone think of his work?

He's one of my favorite filmmakers of all time, and I love all of his features (Life and Nothing More... being my favorite). I've been trying to track down his short films.

I anticipate Kiarostami films with great interest--his attempts to re-define what it means to make (and watch) cinema is very exciting. However, living just outside of Milwaukee, my access to his work has been frustratingly limited (and I largely blame Miramax, which seems to take special pleasure in leaving his work on the shelf). Those features that I have seen prove him clearly one of the most important film artists alive. However, that does not necessarily translate into an impeccable track record. For example, while I have found The Wind Will Carry Us and Ten bottomless, I did not care for Taste of Cherry or ABC Africa (the only one I've managed to actually write a review for).

Your review for ABC Africa is very well-written and I understand perfectly why you disliked it. It was an honorable mention on my 2002 top-10 list and while it is inferior to other Kiarostami features, its poetry is heartbreaking. I sadly missed it in theaters, but I own the VHS and have watched it twice. What didn't you like about Taste of Cherry?
