Wilco song I can't get out of my head: "Sunken Treasure," from Being There--specifically the lyrics "I was maimed by rock and roll / I was tamed by rock and roll / I got my name from rock and roll."

And "Not For the Season" is still rattling around in there.

Saw Wilco at Milwaukee's Eagles Ballroom tonight. It was an awesome show, top heavy with material from YHF and of course a ghost is born. (The band played the entire new album, save for "Wishful Thinking" and "Less Than You Think.") The show opened with my favorite born track, "Muzzle of Bees," a breezy song that ascends into insect noise by way of guitar. Likewise, "Spiders" ended in a spectacular guitar showdown--showoff?--between Jeff Tweedy and Nels Cline, who I think brings a welcome avant-garde vibe to the mix. We had a blast.

I'd love to see Wilco live, but they don't currently have any Houston dates on their schedule. In September they're playing Dallas and Austin, but not Houston. Why not Houston? What's wrong with Houston, huh? Deeply, deeply disappointed. Of course, I could make the drive to Dallas or Austin, but I doubt I could convince any friends to come along (don't know any big Wilco fans).

"Jesus, etc." is one of my favorite tracks from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Quite lovely.

Mike, I went with four friends, two of whom were Wilco neophytes. I sold them by promising a great rock show, period--Wilco is widely considered one of the best live bands currently working. Surely several of your pals could be convinced on that level? (If you spring for my plane ticket and provide a cot, I'll fly down. Very Happy )

Wilco song I can't get out of my head: "Outta Mind (Outta Sight)," from Being There. It's a more ethereal, atypical version of the album's "Outtasite (Out of Mind)". I've been playing it over and over for weeks.

Just wanted to mention that Wilco is scheduled to appear on Austin City Limits January 8th. They will be followed by Bright Eyes.

I grabbed Wilco this morning to listen to on the way to class. (A Ghost is Born.) Man, I need to listen to it more.

Did you notice that part of the guitar solo from "At Least That's What You Said" is used in the new trailer for TCM's documentary about Scorsese's influences? It's been playing in front of the Landmark screenings for a couple of weeks now. When I first saw it, I perked up immediately, partially because I can't recall ever hearing Wilco in a commercial before.

Yeah, I noticed that immediately too! That documentary looks good regardless, but using that song - probably my favorite on A Ghost is Born - seriously makes me want to see it about ten times more.

Here's a fun game:

It even calculates your average speed.
