What do you think of Jenny Lewis and her performance in "The Wizard" with Fred Savage? |

I haven't seen that movie since it was first released. I have virtually zero recollections about it, so I guess I have no opinions about it, either. But I will predict right now that Fred Savage will be the next Marlon Brando.

CD Player: Bjork, Medulla
Playlist: Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come"; Beta Band's "Assessment"; and James' "Sound."
It required only one thrilling listen through Medulla to recognize that Bjork's latest gives Wilco serious competition for album of the year. It's my favorite Bjork release since Selmasongs.
I've also been listening a lot to Tell All Your Friends and Where You Want to Be, and feel emotionally prepared to strangle Taking Back Sunday to death: Great (with the 'e' moved to the end).

It's true....I even wrote an emo song today...(okay, its not really standard emo...but its about the deep emotional loss I felt when I cut my mohawk reallly short and not having a sister...)

SPOILERS FOR THE WIZARD K
I remember that Jenny Lewis accused an old man of rape and then later on they revealed Super Mario Brothers 3 to the world and that mute kid won. _________________

CD Player: Green Day, Dookie
Playlist: Bjork's "Triumph of a Heart"; Golden Smog's "Jennifer Save Me"; Zwan's "Honestly"; Attractive Female Twins' "Sing In Stereo"; Eels' "Selective Memory."
I bought Dookie back in the day--to use one of my least favorite phrases--and have been re-listening mostly to prime myself for American Idiot, which I am eagerly anticipating, much to my own surprise.
I've also been giving To the Five Boroughs a second chance, but I gotta say, the Beastie Boys just don't do much for me now that I'm no longer in junior high. Pretty sure those days are over for me.
Michael and Matt Header, do you guys listen to the Eels? I really think their sound would match your sensibilities. Can't wait for the new album Blinking Lights and Other Revelations next year.

Can't say I've ever heard them, but I've heard tell they're terrific from nearly everyone. I'll put them on the top of my to-buy list, which is growing at a horrific rate.
Thanks for the recommendation! _________________ "I don't like talking to people I know, but strangers I have no problem with." -- Larry David, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" |

I've been meaning to check them out ever since you started singing their praises here. When I was about 16, they had a couple of well-played radio singles ("Novocaine for the Soul" and "Rags to Rags"), but I think that's all I've heard from them. What album do you recommend starting with? _________________ Michael Scrutchin

Well, I listen to all 5 constantly and they all have their singular virtues. I suppose I'd suggest either Daisies of the Galaxy or Electro-Shock Blues. I really think Shootenanny! is amazing, too--it's supremely underrated.
My favorite Eels moment? Watching them play "Flyswatter" on Letterman a few years back in a performance that ended with Mark Everett hanging upside down from a keyboard as if he were a chimp. Letterman's expression was priceless.
