Good album, but I like Sonic Nurse more. Did you see them on Letterman? They played "Incinerate." _________________ Michael Scrutchin

No, I missed it (although I did see Neko Case sing "Maybe Sparrow" a few days ago on Dave).
I haven't really made up my mind about Rather Ripped yet. I've never been a huge SY fan--and I didn't really like Sonic Nurse; my admiration of SY has been more theoretical than actual, I think--but my first impression of RR is positive. _________________ "When I was in Barcelona they showed pornography on regular television. I've been listening to that, too, and man it's good. Never listened to Guster before. _________________ Michael Scrutchin

I'm not sure where I'd rank it against their two previous records--Lost and Gone Forever and Keep It Together are truly great pop albums, in my view--but the five opening tracks of Ganging Up On the Sun are very, very solid. It's definitely a change of pace for them... in fact, a lot of Guster fans are dismayed by how the new sound lacks the "Guster" sound, namely a heavy reliance on vocal harmonies, dual lead vocals, and distinctive, driving percussion (no bongos this time out). But that initial surprise shouldn't prevent fans from recognizing that in many ways this new album is Guster's most ambitious, sonically adventurous album yet. _________________ "When I was in Barcelona they showed pornography on regular television. No, but I'm familiar with it. Lots of terrific stuff on your list--good to see you acquired "Is That the Thanks I Get?" and "Panthers." Are you bummed about Sleater-Kinney calling it quits? _________________ "When I was in Barcelona they showed pornography on regular television. I ripped my own MP3 of "Is That the Thanks I Get?" from an HD video file of Wilco's performance on Conan. It sounds pretty good.

Oh, yeah, especially since I never got to see them live. _________________ Michael Scrutchin

I was going to let that pass without comment. I assumed you must have a niece or someone who had been playing with your iTunes. _________________ "When I was in Barcelona they showed pornography on regular television.
