iTunes Playlist: "Float On," Modest Mouse

Car CD Player: Loveless, My Bloody Valentine

I can't stop listening to Modest Mouse's "Float On." I intend to buy the CD at some point, but today I broke down and purchased the single track from the iTunes Music Store because I had to have it, now. I'd been familiar with Modest Mouse before -- I'd heard The Moon & Antarctica and been intrigued but not completely won over -- but "Float On" is fantastic. I just hope I don't get burned out on it.

One of my students gave me a copy of The Moon & Antarctica a while back, and like you I found it fascinating but not completely satisfying. (I admired every other track.) Still, on the strength of that CD, I bought the new one as soon as it was released. Of the last three Mouse albums, I'd say Good News for People Who Love Bad News is easily the strongest and most consistently intriguing. "Float On" may be the best single of the year so far; I've been listening to it for months and haven't tired of it yet.

I just got the album Madvillainy by Madvillain yesterday and it's spectacular!!! One of my favorites of the year so far. (Although it can't match up to Lil Bow Wow.)

Also got: a ghost is born, by Wilco. Haven't listened to it yet - nor any Wilco albums (not even Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) - so I'm excited to get to that one.

Oh, I'll try getting in on this thread which I have neglected forever.

But, I'm the old school guy; don't expect anything surprising.
