My lack of familiarity with the majority of those titles shows how little I am acquainted with today's music scene.

I don't consider myself well-versed, either, but I do try to search for stuff that might interest me. Michael, no doubt, knows far more about current music than you or me.

My list isn't really a best-of, since I didn't hear nearly enough to have any idea what the year's "best" might be. Plus, by pretty much any typical standard, the Golden Smog album shouldn't be anywhere near the top ten--but for me, it was the sunny summer album of 2006.

I haven't heard the new Regina Spektor. I have Soviet Kitsch, and while it's okay, I didn't like it enough to make the new one a priority. I'll probably give it a shot eventually.

Have you heard Drive-By Truckers' A Blessing and a Curse?

I loved The Dirty South, so I don't know why I haven't picked up Blessing yet. That one kind of slipped through the cracks, I guess, but I'm sure I'll get it sooner rather than later. Glad to hear your endorsement; I had heard that it wasn't quite at the level of their other recent stuff.

I just realized that I had picked up A Blessing and a Curse through eMusic a while back, and just never got around to giving it a listen... and then forgot all about it! Embarassed

But I'm listening now.
