We certainly seem to share tastes, JoeE. Most of your candidates would make my list, too. In particular, I'm happy to see that someone else loves The Apu Trilogy, Majid Majidi, Ponette, Dead Man Walking, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, Wong Kar-Wai, and Zhang Yimou (among many others) as much as I do.

But what's the deal with Larry Clark, Besson, and Blow? Very Happy

Clark: Hard to defend his work... I just like his brand of trash. He's not that far from Warhol or Richard Kern from a purely visual standpoint.

Besson: I don't like anything he did before or after these two. Leon is derivative, but I still think it's an excellent dramatic thriller. The relationship between Mathilda and Leon' was, imo, very moving.

Blow is just a place-keeper until I have more time to polish my list (geek!)

I just watched it this week for the second time and it's been on my mind.
