Supposed to be real fucking controversial Italian film and I have no idea why, I haven't heard much about the actual content. It is also extremely rare to track down, but there is apparently a limited Region 2 disc and I'm getting my hands on a VHS copy soon enough, hopefully the copy itself is uncut because there is supposed to be lots of severely cut copies, blurring scenes straight out of the film. I think that when it was released it was banned in countries because it was dismissed as child pornography. The plot: "A film about the pains and cruelty of being a teenager. The early parts of the film trace the budding love between Fabrizio and Laura. Soon, Silvia moves to town and Fabrizio quickly turns his affections toward her and the two being a romance which includes tormenting Laura."

I hadn't heard of it before, so a looked around and read some reviews. Most people either consider it a powerful work of art, or pretentious crap. Obviously, sounded interesting to me. Let us know what you think, HF.

I looked it up on the IMDb. Lots of folks (many of whom sound like they haven't even seen it) condemning it as child pornography and accusing those interested in it of being pedophiles (which might well be the case for some of them, based on their comments). It looks like the two main actresses were 12 or 13 when it was filmed, so I guess I can see where the kiddie-porn accusations are coming from -- but, of course, I have no idea about the actual content of the film. Nevertheless, seeing a film starring pre-teen kids featured in the X-rated porn section of a few online cult/import/bootleg stores is pretty disturbing. After you watch it, be sure to let us know your take on it.

That is sick and plain wrong...

Speaking of disturbing, after Thirteen, the 2003 film directed by Catherine Hardwicke, was released on video, the manager at the local Hollywood Video told me that the only customers renting it was fifty year-old men. I like to think they were pretty pissed-off by the time it was over.

I think the target audience was actually parents, so, you know, could be...

You have a much higher opinion of humanity than I do.

I have never heard of this but I did like Thirteen and thought that it was a very well made and acted film.
