Thought it might be fun to keep each other abreast of interesting showings that are coming soon, whether that be theatrical or televised. I'll start:
Tomorrow morning Sundance is showing Disbelief, an interesting documentary that I reviewed last fall as part of the Milwaukee Film Festival:

And after the Chaplin marathon, there's a Keaton marathon starting at 7 PM (Central) with The Paleface, Cops, Our Hospitality, Sherlock, Jr., The Navigator, and a few more.
Anybody see the Harold Lloyd marathon last week? I caught Safety Last!, The Freshman, and Speedy, which served as a pretty good introduction to Lloyd, I think. This is all part of the April Fools Festival, TCM's month-long tribute to comedy, which has lots of good stuff coming up. Last week they also had a Preston Sturges marathon, and I finally got to see The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (it's a blast -- better than The Palm Beach Story and almost as great as Sullivan's Travels and The Lady Eve).
This Wednesday, the 13th, TCM is doing a marathon of George Cukor comedies with Dinner at Eight, The Women, Holiday, The Philadelphia Story, and Pat and Mike. And Friday, the 15th, there's an Abbott and Costello marathon.

Yes, I did! I had seen them all previously, but it was an excellent opportunity to record them all to DVD. (I've already got all the Keaton.) Incidentally, the Harold Lloyd estate plans to release 28-30 Lloyd films on DVD before the holidays, probably individually and also in a box set with some exclusive goodies. Can't wait. (The set most likely will not include either the sound nor silent version of Welcome Danger, so I'm particularly glad to have recorded it from TCM.)

There's a five-film Jean Renoir tribute on TCM tonight showing Grand Illusion, This Land Is Mine, The Woman on the Beach, The River, and The Rules of the Game.

I came online to post the same. Might be worth checking out... after all, it does include two of the greatest movies ever made.

Orson Welles is TCM's Star of the Month for May, and they'll be showing all the usual suspects, plus a dozen or so others. I'm most interested in catching The Magnificent Ambersons (yeah, I should've seen it by now), Tomorrow is Forever, Othello, The Stranger, and F for Fake (which just received a Criterion DVD release).
Oh, and there's a three-movie Ernst Lubitsch lineup on TCM right now (sorry for the late notice). My VCR is set to record Ninotchka, which I've been dying to see ever since Cameron Crowe put it on his Sight & Sound Top 10.

I need to catch Ambersons and Evil. And the other two...well...if 'ya haven't seen 'em by now, it's downright sad. Although, I guess you could say that for the two I haven't seen, too.

I'd definitely place Touch of Evil among the essentials, but not Lady from Shanghai. That one's quite a chore in spots.

Really? Lady from Shanghai doesn't approach Kane but, in my mind, it's a great film.

- Nazarin (1959)
- Viridiana (1961)
- The Exterminating Angel (1962)
These aren't available on DVD yet and I haven't seen them...
