The gap between the Western and Eastern worlds is growing as every day passes us. Russia is leaning yet again away from western democracy on a trend of open friendship with Iran and other countries we consider to be hostile. A united western front is non-existent. European countries dislike America and a lot of American's dislike Europe. Our mindsets and decisions are stretching our unified democratic world to its breaking point.

What then is the world to do? Is it the end of the world, as we know it? The end of the age of peace, the end of the age of cooperation, and the end to the hope of a world where men and women of all races and spiritualities can go about the soil of the earth as they please under the same prosperity and happiness? Will there be a day we say we are a citizen of humanity and not a citizen of a country? A member of a world that helps all people, not just those that make up a fraction of a continent. Is it even possible to get the middle-eastern world to understand we are more than an Infidel Economic Power?

It seems to me like we are taking steps to divide, to make two worlds; one for them and one for us. Is that truly the solution? How do we end terrorism with violence itself? Analyze what they are fighting for. They want freedom; they want the right to rule themselves as they want to, and the right to remove themselves from western culture. Sounds a lot like our founding fathers when we wanted independence from England who forced their Monarchal views upon citizens hungry for Democracy. How did we win that war? We knew we couldn't stand up to the might of the British, so we hit them and ran. We cut their supply lines, we killed officers to lower the moral of the men, and we pulled in our outside help to finish them off. The problem really has moved full circle.

I am in no way, shape, or form condoning terrorism, or saying that these people, some of which want nothing less than the destruction of Israel, have the right to do what they do, but is invading them and continuing to impose a lesser form of existence the way to stop terrorism? If such a solution is even possible.

The sanctions we put on many of these foreign lands are similar to those put on Germany following World War I. Tell me then, what came out of that? Hitler...born of frustration that his people were being oppressed by those who decided they should be held back. In response he did not listen to the sanctions, he built a huge army and took over Europe...is this the situation we want to face again.

Now all the countries that are unlike ours are oppressed. We tell them what they can eat, buy, sell, and build. They want THIER people to rise to the prosperity we know and are being told by those unlike them that they cant. They do not listen to our sanctions but build armies and terrorist groups to attack us the only way they can. They are poised to attack the western world in an age where nuclear and biological weapons are the ways of war, not men and tanks. Are we willing to risk that again, this time with consequences FAR worse?

I want to hope there is a peaceful solution. I want to hope that in my lifetime a man from America and Iran can come together and call each other brothers of the free world. I want to hope one day I don't have to worry if America will be hit with a missile or that our water supply will be poisoned. I want to see my country, which I cherish more than anything working to make our world united...not divided, but maybe my way isn?t the answer. Maybe there is no peaceful solution. Maybe all we can do now is fight, but I want to think that there's hope.
