sounds like everyone here knows what they are talking
about when it comes to appreciation and what not.
Its kinda refreshing.

I sound like I know what I'm talking about? Wow. I usually just take the most technical- or scholarly-sounding words I read in other posts and sprinkle them into my comments in a pathetic attempt to make myself appear well-informed and knowledgeable, and to distract from my painfully bad grammar and egregious misspellings. Glad to know it's working.

Hey, all you have to do is use the word cinematography once or twice, and the layman will think you know what you're talking about. _________________ Danny Baldwin

Or, if you really want to impress them, mise en scene. _________________ "If you're talking about censorship, and what things should be shown and what things shouldn't be shown, I've said that as an artist you have no social responsibility whatsoever."

Mise-en-scene is a good one, too.
I'm not in the film industry, but I'm an aspiring screenwriter/director who's made a few DV shorts that maybe 20 people have seen. Does that count?
As for other Flipside forum members... Neal Fredericks, the cinematographer on The Blair Witch Project and Killer Me, among quite a few other films, has posted here before (under the username camopdp). Other filmmakers who've stopped by include Ramzi Abed [bloodshotpictures] ("The Tunnel") and Wayne Alan Harold [luridchief] (Killer Nerd, Townies, Aberration Boulevard), but they don't drop by too often. _________________ Michael Scrutchin

I've been publishing film criticism since 1991, either in print or online, although my output is not nearly as regular as it once was. That's the extent of my film industry experience, which is to say, none.
Like a lot of others around here, I've dabbled in cheap, low-budget filmmaking. Four summers ago I managed to piece together (with the help of a few others) an amateur mini-production about a rookie janitor who realizes his new co-workers aren't a regular crew... After a month of script revising, another month of Mini-DV shooting (a couple of hours nearly every day), and 120 hours of editing sans computers, we ended up with a 71-minute story; somehow it still managed to win some degree of local celebrity. I'd guess that at least 1,000 people have seen it, and I'm frequently asked about it. The funniest thing is that just a couple of weeks ago, one of the "actors" told me that he was accosted in Madison by a perfect stranger who stared at him and then blurted, "You're in Beltmann's movie, aren't you!"
