I used to when I was a kid--nervous habit, I think--but no more. I know a girl whose mom offered to pay her money to stop biting her nails for a certain period--and she hasn't been able to do it.

Because I spent the about 8 years of my life wrestling, I was always forced to have short nails and thus have always used a nail clipper. I guess the oppourtunity to bite them was never really there.

I don't bite my nails (although, strangely, it's a habit that runs in my family); my really bad habit is popping gum. Every time I have a piece of gum in my mouth (which is a lot of time), I have the urge to snap it/pop it as loud as possible. My high school teachers/college professors really enjoy that.

I don't like gum, either. Maybe my many summers as a custodian, scraping wads off the bottom of school desks, has something to do with it. Did I ever mention I was once (more than 10 years ago) honored as Custodian of the Year? Yeah, that's right: I clean with the best of 'em. Show me a dustmop and I'll show you a magician at work.
