Anyone else see it yet? Thoughts? I'll chime in tomorrow.

In the meantime, read Walter Chaw's review at Film Freak Central.

So will I, if I see it tomorrow, etc.

Thanks for the link to Chaw's review, Michael. What a perfect parody of the kind of academic writing featured in college journals and publications like Film Quarterly! I laughed out loud, especially at the allusions to Keats and two Catholic saints.

I enjoyed the movie, for some of the same reasons that Chaw hilariously catalogs.

Seeing it either today or tomorrow...the reviews weren't half bad, from the overview of ratings that I saw.

The Chaw review was pretty clever. "Freddy vs. Jason" was pretty clever too, at times. Yeah, the dialogue sucked, and the kids tended to make unbelievable leaps of intuition, but I was surprised at how closely the movie trod the line of parody without actually crossing it. I wish they'd reigned in the Freddy-slapstick a little more. Granted it wasn't as bad as some of the later NOES entries ("Now I'm playing with power."), but the "pinball" ass-kicking he gives Jason in the boiler room made me wince, and even the inimitable Mssr. Krueger can overuse the word "bitch." Still, there were quite a few good moments. I like how Jason stole Katherine Isabelle out from Freddy's claws, and the "virgin sacrifice" moment was done really well, constituting the movie's only real surprise. Anywho, I don't know if "Freddy vs. Jason" is going to garner either series and new fans, but this old fan had a hoot.

Well, I saw it, and I kinda liked it...it was creepy some of the time, often hilarious, and thoroughly entertaining. The idea got kind of old by the end, though. On the Flipside scale it's a B-, on my scale it's a 2.5/4.

It's fun if stupid and redundant. I actually thought the core storyline and concept wasn't bad at all, but the execution left a lot to be desired.

I'm about to head out to see it. I'll chime in when I get back or after I finish my review.

I just sat there with a big goofy smile on my face from the cornfield scene on. Fun. Lots of fun.

Yeah, I certainly laughed more than I was at all creeped, but it's incredibly entertaining. It was kind of funny though, because these 8 year old kids took their dads, and were screaming their wits out...

And I will belatedly take traffic from your site and send it to The UK Critic Ian Waldron-Mantgani and his review of Freddy Vs. Jason.

It`s just pure fun, Nothing Great, Nothing New, Just Pure Fun!

If you are going there and you have in mind that you are going to hate, you`re gonna hate it but be open-mind and enjoy the gorefest that it is!

As much as I like the original Nightmare on Elm Street and New Nightmare I have no interest whatsoever in seeing ths one, really. The slasher genre should be dead by now; it bewilders me to know that people still like predictable and unoriginal movies with a killer on the loose chasing a bunch of hormone-erupting sex-addicted teenagers with tight tops. We need more freshness and invention from the likes of M Night Shyamalan. That guy really knows how to make a thriller.
