there are so many tv shows on dvd now. which is everyones fav? mine is probably BTVS and Angel. You can get the second season of Angel now on dvd. And CSI's second season too, and Saved by the Bell, everyone remember that show?

Firefly will be my favorite once it hits DVD. After that, Twin Peaks (waiting patiently for the second season ... any time now ...), The Twilight Zone, The Simpsons, Futurama, and Buffy. I would definitely buy Pen & Teller: Bullshit if it ever hit DVD.

Oh yeah. The X-Files. Plumb forgot about that show. Of course, considering its last three seasons, can you blame me?

| I think were all forgetting the greatest tv show being produced, which i have become a super fan of and really plays out more like a movie than a tv show is THE SOPRANOS!!. |

Funny that you mention that. Two days ago, I found a season 2 DVD of the Sopranos lying in the middle of the road, when walking home from school. No scratches; nothing. Haven't played it yet, though.

That's hysterical. I'd follow the same path every day! Manna, maybe?
Perhaps the coolest "find" I've ever had was a brand-new VHS (still shrink-wrapped) of Hitchcock's "The Birds" for 99 cents at a video store. That was some time ago (1998?), pre-DVD of course.
Matt, I still haven't started Season One, but I hope to soon. (Actually, I think my brother-in-law, also a Sopranos neophyte, is going to join me.)

I spent the summer catching up on Seasons 1, 2, and 3. It's great stuff and, yes, the best thing TV has produced in a while.
I've got The Simpsons (natch) and--I'm surprised no one's mentioned it yet--South Park.

Oh yeah, of course, where'd we be without South Park? I hate The Simpsons  ... it started out creative, though, that's why the first DVDs are worth checking out.

Man, I totally forgot about "The Simpsons." Don't have those DVDs yet, either, but they're on my list. Tragically, I've never seen "The Sopranos."
One show I wish they would release on a DVD set is "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." I remember some superb, very creepy episodes that I wouldn't mind owning. |

As a child, my favorite episode was "Man from the South," a 1960 entry starring Steve McQueen as a gambler who bets Peter Lorre that he can ignite his lighter ten consecutive times. If he wins, he gets a convertible. If he loses, he must sacrifice his little finger. That one always stuck with me--mostly because at the end we notice that Lorre's wife has only two fingers on her hand.
If I remember right, that episode was based on a Roald Dahl story. I hadn't thought about it for years, until I saw Four Rooms and realized that Tarantino's contribution to the anthology was clearly inspired by it. (I prefer the Hitchcock Presents version, by far.)

The only TV material that I own on DVD is V: The Original Miniseries and V: The Final Battle, purchased mostly because I have fond memories of both. More significantly, both movies (1983, 1984) were integral to my childhood visual experience--the franchise was the first that I recall actively examining the reasons why I responded so deeply to it.
The first, a sci-fi allegory for fascist persecution--invading aliens use familiar Nazi propaganda techniques and Gestapo methods, focusing on intellectuals rather than Jews--holds up rather well. (Even the special effects, then revolutionary for TV, remain acceptable. And when Independence Day was released in 1996, I'm sure I was not alone in recognizing how that film blatantly ripped off the ominous, central images from V, that of monstrous motherships hovering over the world's major cities.)
However, the second, far more action-oriented installment has not dated well, which I find fascinating: As a kid, I much preferred the second series, which only illustrates how our tastes, and critical faculties, develop and shift as we mature. Watching it now, twenty years later, it's astonishing to realize that the reasons why I loved it then are the exact same reasons why I roll my eyes now.

Does anyone know if they've got Gilligan's Island on DVD? I've looked, but haven't been successful in finding anything...but, after all, they do play it on TV Land everyday, so I guess I'm not missing anything.
